I Often Dream Of Trains In NewYork
"For 1983 I wanted to see what happened if I stopped playing gigs, making records, or having any attempt at a career whatsoever. Whatever music I made was purely for myself, without trying to speak the language of the day. The result was I Often Dream of Trains.
- Robyn Hitchcock
I Often Dream of Trains in New York was recorded live at Symphony Space in New York City in the fall of 2008 during the U.S. leg of Hitchcock's highly anticipated I Often Dream of Trains Tour. Deftly shot by acclaimed director John Edginton (The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story) and originally aired on the Sundance Channel, this concert film DVD (and accompanying audio CD) captures the cult songwriting icon recreating one of his most intimate and haunting albums in its entirety. Robyn is joined by Trains tour-mates Terry Edwards (vocals, keyboards, trumpet, soprano sax, guitar) and Tim Keegan (vocals, guitar) as well as guests Gaida Hinnawi (vocals) and Amir El Saffar (trumpet) from the Robyn-led band seen in Jonathan Demme's stunning film Rachel Getting Married. As its title suggests, I Often Dream of Trains is a glimpse into the phantasmagorical mind of the artist himself. And I Often Dream of Trains in New York captures him fantastically raw and singularly in-the-moment - in other words, quintessentially...Hitchcock.

Goodnight Oslo
Reinvention reigns supreme in the elastic world of Robyn Hitchcock. His latest incarnation with the Venus 3 (Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey & Bill Rieflin) spawned the critically acclaimed Ole Tarantula in 2006. Three years later this confection of rock stars and underground legends is back in 2009 with the post-modern pop masterpiece Goodnight Oslo. Stabbing horns from compatriot Terry Edwards swim alongside gorgeous harmonies throughout this 10-track snapshot of Hitchcock's version of pop music in a perfect world. Goodnight Oslo features guest vocalists Colin Meloy, Sean Nelson and Morris Windsor who help Robyn sing his way through a dreamy remembrance of 16 years of intoxication. An album of nearly unwavering positivity, Goodnight Oslo shines down with the beautiful "I'm Falling" and the beatific "Up to Our Nex," the latter written for the soundtrack to the stirring Jonathan Demme film Rachel Getting Married. A new era in an already fabled career, Robyn's latest work strengthens the pull of his lunar-like gravity and adds yet another chapter to the myth of one of rock music's most influential undercurrents.
This is a limited edition LP, there will only be one pressing of Goodnight Oslo on vinyl.

Luminous Groove
The second in a series of Robyn Hitchcock retrospective box sets from Yep Roc, the five-disc Luminous Groove box set shines a light on Robyn's rock & roll renaissance with the Egyptians. In 1985 Robyn's newest group, with ex-Soft Boys Andy Metcalfe and Morris Windsor plus keyboardist Roger Jackson, marked the next stage in the career of one of popular music's most unique creators. Fegmania! is a return to band format, showcasing the new outfit through sonic tapestries around Hitchcock's signature skittered melodies and private lyrics. On Element of Light, The Egyptians glide between regal pop and driving psychedelia, resulting in of the most deliberate and nuanced college rock records of the decade. Gotta Let This Hen Out! captures a blazing live set by the Egyptians from London's Marquee club in early 1985. The band blasts through new and old Hitchcock classics, effortlessly blending the show into what amounts to a live best-of collection and reminding fans that Robyn's legend is built as much on loud guitars as it is on eerie metaphors and jagged melodies. All three albums contain new bonus tracks exclusive to Luminous Groove.
In addition to these three seminal albums, the set also includes two exclusive bonus discs entitled Bad Case of History which features previously unreleased studio recordings, including the final 1994 sessions, and a CD of unheard live material. Just as with Yep Roc's first box set collection I Wanna Go Backwards, the curation of Fegmania!, Element of Light and Gotta Let This Hen Out! into one box set encapsulates a critical portion of the creative life of Britain's Mad Hatter of pop and further illuminates Hitchcock's gloriously mysterious Luminous Groove.
Luminous Groove is also available as an eight-LP vinyl set.

Fegmania! is a return to band format, showcasing new band The Egyptians through thick sonic tapestries wrapped around Hitchcock's signature skittered melodies and private lyrics. Eye
A sort of sequel to I Often Dream of Trains, 1990's Eye is another stark, solo work that served as a creative shelter for Hitchcock at this time in his career. During this period he was recording a major-label rock album quite different from what he put forth on Eye. "I got to record Eye at a time when a lot of people were on my case," explains Hitchcock. "It had nobody else on it and no Alternative Chart expectations. It was luxury, a wide open meadow to kvetch in." The disc still rings true with fans and live crowds with the inclusion of favorites such as, "Queen Elvis" and "Glass Hotel."

I Often Dream of Trains
Robyn Hitchcock's 1984 album I Often Dream of Trains expands upon the introspective leanings of 1981's Black Snake Diamond Role while further developing his signature lyrical imagery and spare, ominous melodies on this mostly acoustic album. Here Robyn's sharp humor ("Uncorrected Personality Traits") sits comfortably alongside some of his most intimate ballads ("Trams of Old London," "Cathedral"). On Trains the spare arrangements crack the Hitchcockian world wide open allowing for a never-before-glimpsed portrait of the artist in his most artistically exposed incarnation to date.
"For 1983 I wanted to see what happened if I stopped playing gigs, making records, or having any attempt at a career whatsoever. Whatever music I made was purely for myself, without trying to speak the language of the day. The result was I Often Dream of Trains."

Black Snake Diamond Role
Hitchcock's first solo release, Black Snake Diamond Role was recorded during the final days of his influential post-punk combo the Soft Boys. Players included all three Soft Boys Kimberly Rew, Matthew Seligman and Morris Windsor as well as Vibrators guitarist Knox, Psychedelic Furs drummer Vince Ely and soon-to-be synth-pop star Thomas Dolby. Here Hitchcock finds his solo sound with iconic psychedelia like "Acid Bird" and "Brenda's Iron Sledge." In this edition of the album the original tracks are rounded-out by eight bonus cuts, most of them outtakes from the original recording sessions.
" Black Snake Diamond Role was the first Robyn Hitchcock LP - that meant a lot if you were Robyn Hitchcock," Robyn remarks. "The first session was in June 1980, while John Lennon was alive and Jimmy Carter was president. The final one was in January 1981, when they weren't."

I Wanna Go Backwards Box Set
Robyn Hitchcock has finally begun the daunting task of compiling his groundbreaking post-Soft Boys solo catalog with the I Wanna Go Backwards box set. The first of two upcoming collections, I Wanna Go Backwards includes three of his most classic albums. Hitchcock's first solo album Black Snake Diamond Role is a private rock album featuring ex-Soft Boys, a Vibrator, a Fur and other friends. I Often Dream of Trains finds Robyn at his all-acoustic zenith with a seminal collection of kaleidoscopic, stripped down folk. Eye continues in the tradition of Trains draping Hitchcock's signature layered lyrical imagery over his most musically direct work to date. All the albums feature bonus tracks and enhanced liner notes: reminiscences ( BSDR & WTMB), an excerpt from a novel in progress ( Trains), and original poetry ( Eye), plus previously unseen photos and Hitchcock cartoons. Additional bonus material includes While Thatcher Mauled Britain Part 1 & 2, a two-disc comprehensive look at a labyrinth of Robyn's largely unreleased solo b-sides, outtakes and home recordings. Black Snake Diamond Role and I Often Dream of Trains have been remastered for this collection.
In addition to the exclusive box set packaging, all three albums will also be simultaneously re-released individually, allowing fans to fill the gaps in their Hitchcock compendiums. Individual album versions will also feature the bonus tracks included on the box set versions as well as the enhanced liner notes. In addition to compact disc format the set will also be released in an eight-record vinyl box set version complete with original LP artwork. The combined release of the I Wanna Go Backwards box set and the individual albums that comprise it are the definitive document of a career defining period of creation for one of the worlds most eccentric and beloved singer/songwriters, a must-have for collectors and fanatics alike.
This is a limited edition LP, there will only be one pressing of I Wanna Go Backwards on vinyl. Be sure to reserve yours now! All pre-orders of this album come with a free digital version, available in your Stash on release date.

Ole! Tarantula
Robyn Hitchcock sought out some old friends to record his new album, Ole! Tarantula, and he found the Venus 3: Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Bill Rieflin. By enlisting "3/4s of the Minus 5 and half of R.E.M," Hitchcock has created what he calls, "the rockingest record I've made in years." While the album roars with the garage-fueled energy of his Soft Boys days, Hitchcock's lyricism continues to drive his songs. The New York Times says, "[His songs] bridge the psychedelia of Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett and the archetypal English 'nonsense' of Edward Lear," and Rolling Stone says, "Robyn Hitchcock's songs are a lot like the genetic code: they're tough to crack, but the secret of life is in there somewhere." In addition to the Venus 3 core group, Ole! Tarantula was engineered by Seattle mainstay Kurt Bloch and features a cast of recurrent and new characters in the Hitchcock story: Morris Windsor (Soft Boys/Egyptians), Sean Nelson (Harvey Danger), Chris Ballew (Presidents of The United States of America), Kimberly Rew (Soft Boys) and Ian McLagan (The Faces).
This is a limited edition LP, there will only be one press of Ole! Tarantula on vinyl. Be sure to get yours now! All orders of this album come with a free digital version which you can download from your Stash right away!

Spooked
Yep Roc Records is proud to release Spooked, a collaboration by English singer-songwriter/eccentric Robyn Hitchcock and acclaimed Americana duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Over Hitchcock's long and varied career - from his punk-era roots with the Soft Boys and their Syd Barrett-esque; psychedelic pop, his solo releases and albums with the Egyptians - the songsmith, artist and actor (he's in Jonathan Demme's remake of The Manchurian Candidate) never fails to delight with a carefully turned phrase or a perfect musical moment. The idea for the album was sown during a Welch/Rawlings London performance attended by Robyn and his wife, Says Robyn: "It was a brilliant affair; Gillian and David walked on stage carrying their guitars and never once used pick-ups on them. They played music that seemed to come from no particular era, but was rooted back centuries ago." A post-show conversation revealed the duo to be long-time Hitchcock fans (they'd had him sign an album in the early '80s!) and a friendship was struck up, with plans to record if the opportunity arose. Finding himself with a "fresh catch of songs thrashing in my notebook" and a cache of Dylan songs dancing in his head, Robyn joined Gillian and David at Nashville's Woodland Studios and let the tape - and the music -- roll. Naturally. Says Robyn: "We sat in a cluster by the studio window, singing and playing live, using neither headphones nor pick-ups. Nobody even counted the songs in; we always started playing together, and the tape always seemed to be rolling. It was like a child's drawing of a recording session. For me it was an extraordinarily good dream. To sit there with people I admired but had barely met, and to so quickly feel natural playing music with them was something rare indeed."After listening to Spooked; we think you'll agree.
This is a limited edition LP, there will only be one press of Spooked on vinyl. Be sure to get yours now! All orders of this album come with a free digital version which you can download from your Stash right away!
