Song Premiere: Eleni Mandell – “Never Have to Fall in Love Again”
By Kristen Blanton

Eleni Mandell is perhaps L.A.’s best kept secret. She’s impressively quaint and her tracks are laden stripped down and soulful–yielding an unapologetic sensibility. This July, The Living Sisters member (along with Inara George and Becky Stark) plans to release her forthcoming album, I Can See the Future.

Mandell says of the somber ballad, “This song is about when you realize that falling out of love with someone can be a sad moment and maybe you try one last time to explain to your love how great you are together. Of course, explaining never convinced anyone!

Produced by Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, White Stripes, The Shins), the record features an impressive lineup including pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz, saxophonist Steve Berlin and Benji Hughes–who sings alongside Mandell on her new song “Never Have To Fall In Love Again.”

Benji Hughes is a good friend,” she continues, “and I knew he’d sound great like George Jones, helping fulfill my longtime dream of singing like — in my California, Valley Girl way — Tammy Wynette. The whole record, I Can See the Future, is about lots of bittersweet moments looking back on love that didn’t pan out with a nod and wink to the future.

It’s a lovely piece, with brushes of life and lyrical contours that create space for the backyard folk that weaves its way throughout I Can See the Future. Check out Mandell’s tour dates below and enjoy “Never Have to Fall in Love Again” in the streaming player below.

I Can See the Future will be available nationwide on 7/10 and you can pre-order the CD or 180g LP starting next week at the Yep Roc Store.
