Josh Rouse’s New Album ‘Going Places’ Is Out Today!

.........................................................

Today, celebrated singer/songwriter Josh Rouse releases his new album Going Places via Yep Roc Records. With ten laid-back, road-ready tracks featuring his insightful lyrics and warm, effortless style, Rouse once again exemplifies why he is among this generation’s most respected songwriters. Listen and get a copy of the LP / CD here!

Going Places has already garnered critical acclaim from press including BrooklynVegan, PopMatters, No Depression, The Bluegrass Situation, Music Connection Magazine, Americana UK, and Magnet Magazine who praised the album’s “feel-good strumming, off-the-cuff hooks and a mildly exotic groove that should translate perfectly to the live setting.”

Going Places came together over the last two years when Rouse found himself unable to tour and hunkered down with his family in Spain. Together with his Spanish band, he began workshopping fresh songs at a small 1950s-style bar owned by a friend, resulting in a looser, more relaxed vibe than his previous work. Where 2018’s Love in the Modern Age saw him take a left turn to keyboard-based retro-new wave territory, Going Places is steeped in dreamy guitar melodies, with touches of organ and horns, layers of backing vocals and a distinctive southern twang. From the guitar-driven “Hollow Moon” and ‘70s-inspired “Stick Around” to the sunkissed “She’s In L.A.,” it’s clear that this is a serotonin-boosting record created with absolutely no pressure – just the desire to make great music with friends.

Over the last two decades, Rouse’s impressive work has been celebrated by the Associated Press, Billboard, NPR Music, Los Angeles Times, Salon and more. Forbes called him “a masterful songwriter,” and Paste declared, “His knack for setting a simple feeling to a breezy melody shines through again and again.” Now passing 50 years old, Going Places marks the next phase of Rouse’s career as he looks to the future. It is a testament to his unrelenting commitment to evolving and pushing his sound forward, delivering something that is both familiar and wholly new.
